INTRODUCTION
A warning for sensitive tourists.
This page may make have you choose another island to visit, e.g. Salina or Filicudi.
But Lipari is such a big island that has so many things to offer to you, among others:
- very kind and funny inhabitants
- an incredible nature
- a huge lot of trekking routes
- intresting sites like
- the great museum
- historical sites
- like the Mycenean sauna in San Calogero
- and many small pretty clean roads and sites like:
- the artists square.
- the great museum
In this page I share my dream
An island that is like a small San Marino or Switzerland where people take care of their island like the most precious jewel; where a lot of tourists come during winter season to make trekking and bike tours. In my sons lifetime, would like this…
To disappear
I hope that politicians will take care of the problems. Our actual Major is already doing a great work. All my support for him.
Liparians do not kill and steal anymore fortunenately but they need more time to mature and not behave in a immature way.
Some islanders say that tourists behave in a immature way. That is partly true. Some sailing boats, maybe drunk people, throw garbage sometimes in the water and empty their septic tanks near the beach. Vulcano beach worker told me about that. Here comes my list of sorrow:
Polluting
- Some do not understand that tourists do not want to live in a dirty abandoned area. For this reason I clean up the valley below from plastic, glas etc, when I take a walk to the village.
- In some areas like in Pianoconte the recycling areas reminds about a criminal suburb of a big city like Palermo or Messina. The politicians are not able to take care of the whole island. They should divide their responsibility. One office for Pianoconte, one for Canneto and one for Lipari.
- Some islanders are polluting the island (not only youth!) with waste (plastic and abanded tools) on the streets and in nature and on trekking paths
- Some islanders throw wet waste in the unsorted waste instead of recycling it. Some do not take care of plastic and do not understand hat with the wind this ends up in the sea or countryside
- Some do not understand the polystyren (in italian polistirolo) is transformed to nanoparticles in the sea, destroying sea life and poisoning our fish food.
Some make life difficult and sometimes dangerous for tourists not helping to clear trekking paths by brambles and Cisto thorn
ROADS
- the roads are still full of potholes for those who want to take a ride on a motorbike or bicycle. The politicians must check that the road works are well done
TRAFFIC
-
- Some do not understand the dangers of modern transports. Many die here.
- Parking on the island is very difficult for those with handicap who need a car
- Some leave their car, blocking traffic
- Many do not keep distances on the road
There is some light
- But I am happy that several citizens of Lipari via mms (Magazzino di Mutuo Soccorso) have adopted the beaches of Marina Lunga, Canneto and others, keeping them clean and recovering plastic
- I hope this will also happen in the hinterland which offers opportunities for spectacular trekking with for example the Greens or Nesos .
I have adopted the Santa Lucia Valley by taking away plastic and putting it in plastic bins. I also keep order around bins near my house.
Watch this video shot in Kigali, Rwanda. I bet you won’t see any garbage on the streets and sidewalks. A friend couldn’t believe it and thought it was fake or shot in a rich area.
TO CONCLUDE
I think that our tourists must be able to show in their countries uncensored films of a well-kept and clean island.
Tourists who come to Lipari must be able to film a beautiful Lipari with order around the bins, clean sidewalks and a well-kept nature free of waste. A paradise of Lipari cared for by its citizens.
